When everything else is shrinking with time, why not our concept of generation? Once upon a time, a century lasted for a millennium and a decade lasted a century and a year lasted a decade. Nowadays, thanks to the turbo-boost provided by technology, we are moving way too fast and living too dangerously. Just last week, we were scornful at the rising summer temperatures and we are already peeking at the fast-approaching December like the dinosaurs stared at that asteroid. Anyway, the point of contention being, our definition of ‘generation’ needs to go through a revamp.
Without any offence to Reddit, memes are to our generation what proverbs were to our ancestors. The highest as well as the lowest form of validation are rooted in one’s ability to turn into memes. Yes, it’s fucked up. But at the same time, it’s incredibly smooth. Besides, to understand what is wrong with our generation, we will have to first acknowledge what is right with our generation.
If you ask me—if your peace of mind permits—I have a long array of thoughts on this. But then, I have nothing but thoughts to offer to this self-destructive world of ours.
So, without further ado.
Wait.
Before we go ahead, I must inform my dear readers that the option to become a paid subscriber of this esteemed blog has become democratic now. Earlier, Stripe used to be the official mode of payment. Not anymore. Now we have a more desi UPI mentioned below. If you wish to turn into a patron, feel free to mail me on shakti03@gmail.com and we can strike a drug deal that would make Pablo Escobar proud.
Going back to the main agenda, here’s what I think about generation in general.
A generation that is not only lonely but has also found companionship in its endless job.
A generation that charges its phone fully before attending a social gathering — just in case.
A generation so bereft of real-life challenges that it creates them on the internet.
A generation that learned the value of patience from landline shouldn’t act crazy when the wifi is down.
A generation that is dying inside but looks fresh on the outside.
A generation full of opinions but very few ideas.
A generation that hasn’t done much but is tired already.
A generation that literally treats relaxing as a sin.
A generation that has fallen in love with itself but can’t figure out how to stay faithful.
A generation that feels the most tired on waking up in the morning.
A generation so used to stress that it can't distinguish between happiness and respite anymore.
A generation that is eager to stand up for something but don't know for how long.
A generation that has accepted the burden of painkillers faster than it rejected the lessons of pain.
A generation that wants to be woke af but is broke as fuckall.
A generation full of light sleepers and heavy worriers.
A generation that'd rather lose its faith than its phone.
A generation that lives in a bubble but throws stones at others.
A generation that would rather be offended than confused.
A generation that needs booze education more than sex education.
A generation that's just a fingertip away from calling itself a photographer.
A generation that remains farthest from a voting booth but closest to explaining how a democracy is supposed to be.
A generation whose biggest contribution is coining words for almost everything.
A generation that quickly transitioned from Age of Reason to Age of Doom.
A generation with way too many tricks to appear busy somehow.
A generation that is more imaginative with problems than solutions.
A generation filled with knowledgeable idiots – we know what needs to be done but won’t do it.
A generation that’s living far beyond its means and way within its memes.
A generation that isn’t as strong as its opinion.
A generation that genuinely feels that getting bored easily is a superpower.
A generation has genuinely lost the power of being surprised by the corners of life.
A generation that is cursed to not die anytime soon.
Love it❤️
