The surest way to get noted is to hide. And this principle is very true to almost everything that goes to print. Newspapers, magazines, pamphlets, banners, etc. In today’s world of rising digitization of information and fast depleting readership, it’s worth pondering over the meaning of the word ‘edition’. What does it really mean anymore? Where is the line between the first and the last edition? Scary thoughts, propped up by the vast spread of http.
On the lighter side, we are never getting rid of our good ol’ habit of reading—both words and people—because we just can’t have enough of it. Similarly, books appeal to our sense of smell so it’s quite obvious that we’ll wean onto the pages as long as we exist. Yes, the technology will make things less cumbersome but who’s to predict our impending boredom with the lifeless gadgets too? Seriously.
That leaves us with alone with our sense of curiosity and observations. We tend to overestimate the gloom because our generation is programmed to be scared of losing what doesn’t belong to us anyway.
Good things shall go, bad things shall stay. Etc.
Which is ironic because we adapt to everything, well almost everything; even to the acute loss of beauty in simplicity. For instance, a newspaper is the closest most of us will ever get to holding the world in our hands. Something printed is forever. 24 carat truth. And that brings us to some (read: unlimited) edition-al thoughts made by yours screwly over the years.
